Dublin in Bloom June 2024

On a warm but cloudy early Monday morning we assembled, well most of us did…we had a total of 4 no-shows, which was very frustrating and time delaying for the rest of our party!!

However, those who did attend set off shortly after 8.00am and headed off to the motorway and the Phoenix Park.  A brief comfort stop at AppleGreen  Services at Castlebellingham followed, then on to Dublin and the Show. It took what seemed like ages for the coach to arrive at the coach park but when it did we were only a 5 minute walk from the entrance.

Once there our party seemed to disappear like snow of an April ditch   There was so much to see with plant stalls, garden accessories, etc. to greet us as we ventured further into the throng we came upon the famed ‘Bord Bloom’ displays. Now that’s how to lay out your garden!! With kiddies play-areas, fast food outlets (by the dozen) pop-up restaurants to suit all tastes, diets and pockets, everyone was well catered for.

There were Speciality Deli’s galore, garden equipment stalls, fruit sales, Artisan bakeries etc. In all there was something for everyone.

We were even entertained by various buskers singing C&W music, a Taylor Swifty, another young lady singing Amy Winehouse. At the end of the day everyone was ‘walked out’ and we were happy to return to our coach and head for home.

The journey through Dublin was eased by the fact that it was a Bank Holiday and the normal 4.00pm traffic was light meaning we made good headway through the tunnel and onto the M1 for a quick comfort stop again at Castlebellingham before completing our return to the PST base at Hydebank Wood. As we said our goodbyes and thanked our coach driver Sam we all agreed that a great day was had by all and all expressed their gratitude to the Trust for the opportunity to visit the iconic Dublin Show.
